My favorite era:

I suppose everyone has a favorite era in history. Yours might be Colonial times. For me, being a tomboy as a little girl and loving horses the way I do, I was always fascinated by stories of the Wild West. Though in fact it was a short time period in our history, tales of bold characters abound. In particular, I loved reading about strong women like Annie Oakley and “Calamity Jane”.

As young child, I always asked for a new cowboy suit for Christmas. (Not a cowgirl’s, a cowboy’s.) I can remember vividly what some of those suits looked like. My favorite was one that was red and black; black pants and shirt trimmed with red yokes and white “mother of pearl” snaps. I had black boots to match, a red hat and normally I got a new set of six shot cap guns and a bolo tie to trim out the outfit. Oh I loved it!

As I grew from cap guns to BB guns to real guns, I never lost my love and respect for the “old west” and western styles. I don’t have horses anymore or even get the chance to ride like I used to, but I still love to daydream about those times. Oh, and I still get a new pair of boots every year!
